The Institute of Hotel Management, Gangtok,
Sikkim was set up in the year 1990 as a Food
Craft Institute by Ministry of Tourism,
Govt. of India and Govt. of Sikkim with a
motto to provide job-oriented and
professional education to all the students
from any stream from any parts of the
country. During the year 2000 it was
upgraded to full-fledged Institute of Hotel
Management affiliated to National Council
for Hotel Management under Ministry of
Tourism, Govt. of India and started
enrolling candidates from all over India
through Joint Entrance Examination conducted
by the NCHMCT, New Delhi. With the progress
of the Institute, Government of India
sanctioned funds for setting up a permanent
campus at Sajong, Rumtek and Institute was
finally placed in its permanent campus at
Sajong, Rumtek during the year 2011-12.
Today, the Hospitality and Tourism has
become a complex, cosmopolitan and global
industry within the past few years.
Consequently, large international hotel
groups have standardized their managerial
staff recruiting policy and requires
specialized and educated managers. This is
why to provide quality education and
training in hospitality in this North-East
region, this Institute started taking
initiative to fulfill the objective of the
Tourism. Students obtain national university
degrees that are recognized worldwide. They
get job placement on completion of their
final semester. Last, but not least, the
degree or diploma holders of this Institute,
get employment in the most prestigious
hotels in the country and abroad. All the
programmes offered by this Institute are
highly structured and all the semesters are
having different module of course work. The
programme emphasizes on the operational and
strategic management required in the
hospitality industry of international
standard.
Campus Location and Infrastructure
The
Institute is located at Sajong, Rumtek, Gangtok,
capital city of Sikkim which is just 120 kms
from the nearest Railway station i.e N.J.P ,West
Bengal and 118 kms from Bagdogra Air Port,
Siliguri, West Bengal. There is a daily
Helicopter Service operated by Sikkim Tourism
for the public use up to Gangtok. It enjoys
sub-Tropical to temperate climate with an
average annual temperature of 10° C minimum and
25° C maximum. The students will be privileged
to study in one of the most peaceful states in
India. Sikkim is a popular tourist destination
and has a tranquil environment.
The campus measuring approximately 3.5 acres of
prime land at Sajong, Rumtek, Sikkim. Three
multistoried Buildings providing facilities to
the Administration, Practical Laboratories,
Computer Lab, Library, Audio Visual Lab etc. In
the campus there is lot of space for parking
facilities and play ground. The Audio-Visual
room is equipped with, LCD Projector, Computers,
OHP/TV and a wide range of teaching software.
One Boys Hostel providing accommodation to 64
students is there and Girls Hostel, Staff
Quarter, Principal Quarter and more boys Hostels
are coming up in the campus to make it fully
residential.
