1. B.Sc Hospitality & Hotel Administration Program (JEE)

The National Council for Hotel Management and the Indira Gandhi National Open University offer the Bachelor of Science program in Hospitality and Hotel Administration jointly. The Three-Year program equips students with all the required skills, knowledge and attitude to efficiently discharge supervisory responsibilities in the Hospitality Sector.

The National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology centrally regulates admissions to B.Sc Hospitality & Hotel Administration Program by conducting Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) in the month of April. The advertisements for the degree course appear in National Newspaper in the month of January each year.

Candidates appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination can appear in JEE for being considered on provisional basis. Provisional admissions will stand cancelled if proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) is not submitted to the concerned Institute.

Admission will be subjected to verification of facts from the original certificates / documents produced by the candidates. Decision of NCHM&CT regarding the eligibility shall be final. Even after the admission to the Institute if an applicant is found ineligible on account of supplying false information of false testimonials or for having suppressed any material information, his / her admission will be cancelled.

Eligibility

Age limit for Candidates from General and OBC categories is 22 years as on 1.07.2012.Candidates born on or after July 01, 1990 are eligible. In the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, age limit is 25 years as on 01.07.2012 i.e. SC/ST candidates born on or after July 01, 1987 are eligible. Age limit for Physically Challenged candidates shall be reckoned as per the category he/she belongs to i.e. General/SC/ST/OBC.

Qualifying Examination for Indian Students

  • Two level examination in the 10+2 pattern of Senior Secondary education of any recognized Central/State Board such as Central Board of Secondary Education and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination or State Boards of Secondary Education.
  • Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the advanced (A) level.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University.
  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in a foreign country recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 patter of Senior Secondary education.
  • H.S.C. Vocational Examination.
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects including English as one of the Subjects.

Reservation of Seats

  • Reservation for Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe under the Government of India.
  • Documents required in support of claim for reservation under SC/ST and OBC categories.

 2. B.Sc Hospitality & Hotel Administration Program (NE State Quota)

There are 3 IHMs in the North Eastern Region viz., IHM Guwahati, Shillong and Gangtok. In order to encourage students of Northeastern States to come forward in the mainstream of hospitality education in the country, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has allotted 100 seats reserved for 8 North Eastern States. From 2011-12 these seats are being filled up through a transparent method of the respective North Eastern Staes in collaboration with the respective IHMs and North Eastern Council.

Candidates of the North Eastern Region interested to join the 3-Years B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration Programme may contact their respective State Education Department / Tourism Department as per alloted of Seats given below for all 3 IHMs.

Approved scheme for filling up of reserved seats earmarked for North Eastern states for Admission to 1st Year of 3-Year B.Sc. in Hospitality & Hotel Administration at Institute of Hotel Management, Guwahati/Shillong/Gangtok

Following seats have been reserved for North Eastern States for admission to the 1st Year of 3-Year B.Sc. HHA Program at Institute of Hotel Management at Guwahati, Shillong and Gangtok  for the year 2012-13

Assam- 17 seats
Arunachal Pradesh  -08 seats
Mizoram- 08 seats
Manipur08 seats
Nagaland-08 seats
Tripura-15 seats
Meghalaya-13 seats
Sikkim23 seats

The above earmarked seats shall now be filled by respective State Governments through Department of Tourism. The procedure to be followed by respective State Governmenthas been agreed to by Department of North Eatern Region in the Ministry of Home Affairs and has been approved by the competent authority in the Ministry of Tourism.

Each State Government shall give wide publicity about the reservation of seats through press notification and other moders, so that maximum number of candidates avail of the opportunity and apply in respective States.

There shall be reservation of seats viz., 15% for SC; 7.5% for ST and 27% for OBC (central list and non-creamy layer) categories in case of State IHM, Gangtok, reservations shall be as given i JEE-2012 brochure.

Applications should be invited as per above eligibility criteria, indicating last date of receipt of application in such a way so that the merit list is drawn and entire selection process completed for candidates to report for induction on 1st Agust 2012. Merit list should be drawn based on percentage of marks in 10+2 or equivalent examination (marks will be calculated on the basis of best five subjects including English, which is a compulsory subject) seperately for General, SC, ST and OBC categories. In case interview is conducted the interview committee should have representation essentially of Principal of the Institute of Hotel Management where candidates shall seek to the course. Interviews, if held, shall be on pilot basis and its weightage should not be more than 15% of the total 100 marks.

In case seats earmarked for General/OBC category are not filled, the same can be filled by candidates belonging to SC/ST category, drawn from the merit list of respective categories.

The entire selection process has to be transparent and report detailing procedure followed with list of selected candidates be forwarded to National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, A - 34, Sector 62, NOIDA - 201309 for information nad record. Record of non-selected and selected candidates should be retained by the Sate Tourism Department for future reference, if any.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria shall be Pass 10+2 or equivalent examination from CBSE, ISE, State Boards of Examination of any year, with English as one of the compulsory subject. Upper age limit for General Category shall be 22 years as on 1st July of the year of admission and upper age limit for SC/ST candidates shall be 25 years as on 1st July of year of admission.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

The documents to be submitted at the time of admission:

  • Passport size – 2 nos.
  • Original And Photocopy (Two Sets) Of:
  • Pass Certificate of Qualifying Examination (Class 12)
  • Age Proof – Birth Certificate.
  • Caste Certificate.
  • Medical Certificate.

N.B. There is no concession of fees for SC/ST at Institute Level. There is provision of getting stipened from SC/ST Department of concerned State Government.

GUIDELINES FOR ADMITTED CANDIDATES

Attendance Requirements:

All candidates admitted to different courses will be required to put in a minimum of 75% attendance during the academic session. Those who fail to secure 75% attendance shall be debarred from appearing in the Term-End examinations to be conducted by the National Council. Principal of the institute is empowered to condone up to 10% of absence on medical grounds. Such requests should, however, be accompanied by medical certificate issued by any registered medical practitioner.

Assessment Parameters / Awards of Degree

Candidates admitted to the 3 year B.Sc. Program will have to undergo 3 assessment tests for theory and 7 assessment test for the practical for the award of Mid-term marks which carries 30% weight age in each semester. In addition to this they will have to pass the semester ending examination as per the Examination rules of the Council. In order to be eligible to obtain a degree, a student will have to pass the five courses of IGNOU during his/her three years of study for which separate counseling sessions will be held in the Institute.

For Detained and Failed Candidates:

Detained candidates will be re-admitted to the subsequent academic session as repeaters on payment of full fees. Candidates who fail in the annual examination will have the discretion to appear in the subsequent annual examination either as a regular candidate after paying the full fees or appear therein as external candidate on payment of the examination fees only.

UNIFORM

There is a prescribed uniform code for attending theory and practical classes that is required to be followed by the students of B.Sc. Program.
